Jan paints sacred images in the form of icons using the materials and techniques of the Byzantine era. She considers this passion to paint sacred images a Divine Appointment which suddenly affected her life about 10 years ago with an overwhelming desire to paint an icon of the Blessed Mother. She has studied extensively with master iconographers in foreign countries and in the U.S., and has researced the theology, theory, and techniques in iconography.
Jan’s icons can be found in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and in galleries in Colorado and N.M., where she resides. She has participated in juried and invitational exhibitions and is affiliated with several art related groups. For the last five years, Jan has taught iconography. Educated as a teacher and subsequently as a registered nurse, she feels that art can inspire, heal and comfort, and that it has personal transformative power, for the creator as well as the viewer, beyond our imagination.
